North West Tasmania
NW Tasmania is a pretty region following the Bass Hwy along Tasmania’s north coast from Marrawah (west) to Devonport (east). This route affords spectacular Bass Strait vistas leading into hilly farming country and further south again, the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair NP. The park covers 1 280 sq km and the main attraction, Lake St Clair is the starting point for Tasmania’s most famed trek, 80 km Cradle Mountain walk. Along the west coast, the Arthur and Pieman rivers flow out into the Southern Ocean through stunning gorges and rainforests. Main towns in the area include Smithton, historic Stanley, Wynyard, Burnie, Ulverstone, Devonport and Deloraine.
