The Whitsunday coast is a magnificent stretch of coastline beginning north of Mackay to just north of Bowen. It includes 1 667 ha Mt Aberdeen NP located 37 km s-w of Bowen, Cathu State Forest 58 km south of Proserpine and Conway NP 33 km south of Airlie Beach. The southern gateways to the Whitsundays are Airlie Beach and Shute Harbour. There are 74 beautiful Whitsunday Islands offshore. Bowen is an important fruit growing town and often provides picking work for travelers.
